44TH ANNIVERSARY OF EMERGENCY:- Today, 44 years ago, the Emergency was declared in the country, which is also called the dark chapter of the history of Indian politics. Emergency was announced on midnight of 25 June 1975, which took place on 21 March 1977. During that time, then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed had announced the Emergency in the country under Article 352 of Indian Constitution on the recommendation of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi-led government.

This was the most controversial period in the history of independent India. Elections were postponed in the emergency. It is also considered the most controversial period of Independent India. The next morning, on June 26, the whole country heard about the announcement of the Emergency in the voice of Indira Gandhi on the radio. There are several reasons behind the emergency, in which the most important is the judgment given against Indira Gandhi on behalf of the Allahabad High Court on June 12,1995.

High Court decides the reasons for the emergency:- It is said that the foundation of emergency was laid on June 12, 1975. On this day, the Allahabad High Court had convicted Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for misuse of government machinery in the election campaign in Rae Bareli and rejected her election. Not only that, Indira had been barred from holding elections for any of the six years and holding any post. Raj Narayan had filed the case in 1971 after losing to Indira Gandhi in Rae Bareli. Judge Jagmohan Lal Sinha had given this ruling. Although the Supreme Court upheld the order on June 24, 1975, but allowed Indira to remaing in the prime minister's chair. One day after Jayaprakash Narayan called upon Indira to resign all over the country till the resignation. Strikes were going on across the country.

There was widespread protests led by some leaders, including Jai Prakash Narayan, Morarji Desai. Indira was not easily in the mood to clear the throne. Sanjay Gandhi did not want to be ruled by his mother's hand. The opposition was constantly pressurizing the government. The result was that Indira decided to impose emergency in the country on June 25. Midnight, Indira signed an emergency decision with then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. 

In the Emergency, the whole Opposition was united under the leadership of Jai Prakash Narayan. The whole country sparked a movement against Indira. The government machinery was engaged in crushing the movement of opposition. All the opposition leaders, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Mulayam Singh Yadav, were convicted in jail. Sanjay Gandhi's arbitrians had crossed the border. For example, many men were subjected to forcibly sterilization, not knowing their gesture.


44th anniversary of emergency Rights were removed:- It is said that the entire country was turned into a big prison in the government. During the Emergency, the fundamental rights of the citizens were postponed. The Supreme Court also accepted its mistake in 2011 to strip the right of living till the Emergency. On January 2, 2011, the Supreme Court admitted that during the Emergency in the country, the court had also violated the fundamental rights of the citizens. 


Revenge of Emergency by the public: -The battle of JP reached the final point. Indira had to leave the throne. The Janata Party was formed under the leadership of Morarji Desai. There were general elections in 1977. In the elections of 1977, the Congress suffered badly. Indira himself lost the election from Rae Bareli and the Congress got reduced to 153 seats. On March 23, 1977, at the age of twenty-one years, Morarji Desai became the Prime Minister. It was the first non-Congress government built after thirty years of independence.
